Mission Statement
State of Franklin Radio is organized exclusively for public educational purposes. State of Franklin Radio (SOFR) will preserve and promote traditional and contemporary folk music indigenous to Southern Appalachia. Specifically, SOFR’s express purpose is as follows:
- To internationally broadcast and locally archive Southern Appalachian indigenous music, including collecting and documenting traditional and contemporary genres of the Region’s folk music heritage
- To promote established and new folk musicians via sponsored concerts, workshops and lectures in partnership with area colleges, museums, folklorists, ethnomusicologists and local commercial performance venues, as all of these stakeholders define indigenous “folk music”
